A 30-year-old man has been arrested in the Babel neighbourhood of Alicante following a collision involving a glass container and two parked cars. The incident occurred near the municipal swimming pools after the man had been involved in an argument with his partner, who has since identified herself as a victim of abuse.
Police were alerted to the scene by emergency services shortly after 11.00 am on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered two empty vehicles on the pavement with significant damage. A third vehicle was found in a parking area with the driver inside, who was suffering from facial injuries.
Also at the scene was a young woman who informed the police that she had been in a relationship with the driver for three months and claimed to be a victim of domestic abuse. According to reports, the woman alleged that she had suffered two prior attacks. In the first instance, she stated she was punched in the eye, and in the second, she claimed the man had threatened to use his vehicle to kill her, though she had not previously reported these incidents due to fear.
The owner of one of the damaged vehicles arrived shortly before the police and noted that the driver appeared to be in a state of shock, was bleeding from the nose and mouth, was not wearing a seatbelt, and was barefoot. Witnesses at the scene reported that the man had driven towards the container and parked vehicles during a dispute, though there was uncertainty regarding whether he intended to harm his partner or himself.
The local police conducted breathalyser and drug tests on the driver, both of which returned negative results. The man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. Following his discharge, he was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and committing gender violence. He appeared in court and has been released on bail pending trial.
