The National Police have arrested a man in Elche as the alleged perpetrator of fraud and coercion. The suspect allegedly deceived a foreign woman who was in an irregular administrative situation, promising to process a residency and work permit for her in exchange for 5,000 euro.
The investigation began following a report filed by the victim. She explained that she met the suspect while working as a prostitute at a hostess club in Elche. According to her account, the man offered to manage the regularisation of her administrative legal status in exchange for a sum of money.
The victim stated that she handed over a total of 5,000 euro to the suspect on the understanding that he would carry out the necessary procedures to obtain the residency and work permit. However, as time passed, the application was never actually processed.
Furthermore, the woman stated that the man kept demanding new amounts of money from her. She also stated that he threatened to withhold several of her personal belongings, which remained at his home, if she did not make an additional payment.
Following police enquiries, officers successfully fully identified and located the individual allegedly responsible for the events. He has ultimately been arrested on charges of fraud and coercion.
The detained man has now been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities for the adoption of the appropriate precautionary measures.
