More than 23 tonnes of all types of waste (exactly 23,460 kilograms) were collected from the sandy areas of El Campello following the Nit de Sant Joan celebrations. The service concessionaire company, FCC, has completed the collection and weighing of the cleared material, which included the remains of the bonfires lit in the designated areas on Muchavista and Carrer la Mar beaches in accordance with the summer solstice tradition.
The clean-up operation, which deployed machinery and a total of 30 workers clearing by hand, started after the celebrations and finished earliest at Carrer la Mar at 05:15, and at 08:00 on the Muchavista beach.
The Councillor for Services, Maintenance and Beaches, Rafa Galvañ, thanked the public for the high level of civic responsibility shown by those who took part in the festivities. The vast majority of people deposited their rubbish in the containers and bins, and when these containers became full, chose to leave it in tied bags around them, a gesture that greatly facilitated the clean-up work.
