An elderly man with reduced mobility has died following a fire in a residential building in Callosa d’en Sarria, near Guadalest, on Friday morning, 3rd July.
The emergency services were alerted at 10:17 am to a fire on the second floor of a four-storey residential block located at number 10 Calle San Isidro, where flames were visible from the public highway. Upon entering the property, emergency teams discovered the body of the deceased, who was a wheelchair user.
Other residents living in the building managed to evacuate the premises safely without sustaining injuries. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 10:54 am and officially extinguished it at 12:15 pm, subsequently utilising mechanical ventilation to clear the smoke and gases accumulated throughout the property.
The emergency response involved local health services, Local Police, Guardia Civil, and the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium, who deployed two command units, two heavy urban pumps, and a turntable ladder alongside a team comprising a subofficer, a sergeant, a corporal, and eight firefighters from the Benidorm station. The precise causes of the fire are currently under investigation.
