The Provincial Court of Alicante has sentenced a man and a woman to 13 years, nine months and one day in prison each for killing their flatmate. The couple also dismembered and burned the body in order to maintain the use of the property and steal his money.
The two convicted individuals were tried by a popular jury. The sentence, handed down by the magistrate of the Second Section of the Alicante Court who presided over the tribunal, imposes a 12-year sentence on each accused for the crime of homicide. They were also given an additional prison sentence of one year, nine months and one day for a continuous offence of fraud, according to details provided by the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV).
According to the facts proven by the jury in their verdict, the events took place on an unspecified date close to but prior to 12th June 2024. The two accused, who were a couple, killed their flatmate, although the exact method used to cause his death remains unconfirmed.
Following the killing, they dismembered the body using a radial saw and a knife, and burned the remains after dousing them with petrol in two different rural areas on the outskirts of the city of Alicante. After committing the crime, the convicted pair used the victim’s bank card to make cash withdrawals totalling 820 euro.
The sentence issued by the Jury Court of the Alicante Court is not final and can be appealed before the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the TSJCV.
