The National Police has arrested a woman in Alcoy accused of stealing 6,400 euro in cash from two properties where she was employed to carry out cleaning duties. The investigation was launched after one of the victims reported the disappearance of money from both her home and that of her mother, an elderly woman.
According to police sources, the complainant had been noticing small amounts of cash missing from her property for several months, though she initially thought little of it. However, the situation escalated when her mother informed her that a significant amount of cash kept at home had also gone missing.
The arrested individual worked as a cleaner at both addresses. Investigators found no evidence of forced entry and no other individuals connected to the properties who could have accessed the funds.
The complainant decided to inspect a safe hidden inside a wardrobe and discovered that out of 4,000 euro stored inside, only 600 euro remained. The key was kept in a non-visible location in the house butcould be found by anyone searching for it.
The National Police explained that an additional 3,000 euro had also disappeared from a money box belonging to the victim’s mother. In total, investigators have linked the suspect to the theft of 6,400 euro across both properties.
Upon discovering the missing money, the victim spoke with the employee before reporting the matter at the police station. The judicial police unit in Alcoy subsequently initiated enquiries to clarify the facts.
The worker, a woman born in 1994 and a resident of Alcoy, was identified as the alleged perpetrator. The National Police arrested her on 1 July on suspicion of theft.
Following the report and the opening of official proceedings, the husband of the arrested woman agreed to return a portion of the funds allegedly taken from the properties. As a result, officers successfully recovered 3,000 euro of the reported 6,400 euro.
The remaining funds have yet to be recovered. The investigation has now been handed over to the courts, which will determine the final legal classification of the events and any potential criminal liability for the arrested suspect.
