Officers from the National Police and the Alicante Local Police have carried out an investigation against drug trafficking, successfully dismantling an indoor marijuana cultivation containing 190 plants set up inside a property in the northern area of Alicante. The operation has also resulted in the arrest of a 48-year-old man.
The police investigation began after three separate reports prepared by officers from the Alicante Local Police Air Support Unit pointed to the possible location of a hidden marijuana plantation inside a property in the northern part of Alicante, according to a statement issued by the security forces.
Once all the information was analysed by officers from the Narcotics Group of the Alicante Northern District Police Station, and following various police enquiries, a surveillance operation was set up around the investigated property. Through this surveillance, officers were able to verify that a man was residing there who was responsible for guarding and maintaining the cultivation.
After officers fully identified the man, they organised a police operation to execute a court-granted entry and search warrant at the property. Inside the residence, officers discovered an indoor marijuana plantation with 190 plants.
The property lacked a contract with an electricity distribution company, and the suspect had apparently connected the power supply illegally to the electrical grid.
Officers from the National Police UIP (Police Intervention Unit) and the Local Police Canine Unit also participated in the operation, which was conducted jointly by National Police and Alicante Local Police officers.
Ultimately, the officers proceeded to arrest the 48-year-old man, who is of Spanish nationality. During the house search, where the 190 plants were seized, officers also confiscated multiple items used for the indoor cultivation of marijuana and 520 euro in cash.
The arrested man, who is accused of drug trafficking and the illegal abstraction of electricity and who has been arrested on previous occasions for drug trafficking, was placed at the disposal of the investigating duty court of Alicante.
