The opening of the 72nd International Choral Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony in Torrevieja has been brought forward to 12.30pm this Sunday, 19 July, to avoid clashing with the 2026 Football World Cup final.
The Mayor of Torrevieja and President of the Patronato de Habaneras, Eduardo Dolón Sánchez, announced the schedule change, which was decided after the Spanish national team successfully qualified for the World Cup final. The opening gala will still take place at the Teatro Municipal.
The decision was finalised during a meeting chaired by Eduardo Dolón, which brought together various departments of the Patronato and municipal area managers. The primary aim of the adjustment is to preserve the smooth running of the event, ensuring it takes place under the optimum conditions required for what is considered the ultimate symbol of Torrevieja’s culture and identity.
The Patronato has also confirmed that ticket holders for the opening night who do not wish to attend due to the earlier start time can request a full refund. Refunds will be processed through the same sales channels used to purchase the tickets.
