The Valencian public television channel, À Punt, is to broadcast the final gala of the 72nd International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition from the Municipal Theatre in Torrevieja.
An agreement signed this morning by the Mayor of Torrevieja and president of the Municipal Board of Trustees of the competition, Eduardo Dolón, and the president of the Audiovisual Corporation of the Valencian Community (CACVSA), Román Ceballos, will significantly boost the reach of the city’s premier cultural event. Over 700 choir members representing 13 countries from across four continents are set to participate in the prestigious competition, which runs from 19 to 25 July. The closing gala will be broadcast on À Punt on a delayed basis on the evening of Sunday, 26 July, immediately following the broadcast of the Moors and Christians parade in Villajoyosa.
The final gala will gather the selected choirs on stage for a final performance, followed by the announcement of the jury’s decision and the official awards ceremony. The event will draw to a close with a traditional group rendition of this year’s required piece, “Habanera de sal”, which features lyrics by Belén Puente and music by Antoni Mas.
The 72nd edition of the International Habanera and Polyphony Competition will run in Torrevieja from 19th to 25th July, once again positioning the municipality as an international hub for choral music. The opening gala on Sunday, 19th July, will feature performances from the Torrevieja Musical Union and the Symphony Choir of the Municipal Choral School, who will perform the official anthems. This will be followed by a performance from the acclaimed soprano Ainhoa Arteta, one of the leading voices in international opera.
The new agreement between the Torrevieja City Council and À Punt will bring the historic cultural festival into thousands of homes, promoting Torrevieja’s rich musical heritage and solidifying its reputation as a global benchmark for choral music.
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, expressed his satisfaction with the deal, stating that the agreement with À Punt is fantastic news for Torrevieja and its International Habaneras Competition. He noted that broadcasting the final gala will allow thousands of viewers to experience the artistic quality of a unique competition that forms an essential part of the city’s identity and serves as a major cultural ambassador for the region. He also shared his gratitude for À Punt’s commitment to culture and Torrevieja, adding that the collaboration will help to continue promoting the event internationally, which has over seven decades of history and brings the finest choirs in the world to Torrevieja.
