The Local Police in Elche have closed a second illegal vehicle storage compound situated in Torrellano Alto, which was operating without an opening licence.
The site occupied over 50,000 square metres across nine merged plots and had the capacity to accommodate more than 3,500 vehicles. Around 3,650 cars currently remain inside the facility, and owners will be able to retrieve them through a coordinated protocol between the Local Police and the site management company.
The closure was executed after the court rejected urgent interim measures requested by the operating firm to halt the shutdown. The judicial ruling backed the municipal action, confirming that the agreement approved by the Local Government Board on 23rd April applies generally, without exceptions or special privileges.
The Mayor of Elche, Pablo Ruz, highlighted that the closure is a regulated procedure with full administrative and legal guarantees, adhering strictly to the law. The court ruling noted that the company could not claim economic damages, as it expanded its activity after the municipal agreement was approved and with full knowledge of its content.
This action is part of broader municipal measures aimed at preventing the opening or expansion of unlicensed storage sites while modifications to the General Urban Development Plan are processed to regulate car storage around Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. Elche Council is currently advancing two further cases against unlicenced sites in the area.
