A passenger travelling from Manchester Airport to Alicante has been ordered to pay more than £250 after causing an alcohol-related incident during her flight.
According to reports, Diane McKenna, 42, a resident of Oldham, appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court after it was found that she was drunk on board EasyJet flight EZY2015, which was destined for Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.
The incident occurred on 8th February. The passenger violated the Air Navigation Order 2016, a British regulation that prohibits boarding an aircraft while intoxicated or remaining intoxicated during a flight.
Months later, on 9th June, McKenna pleaded guilty to a crime related to boarding or remaining on the plane under the influence of alcohol.
The court imposed a fine of £120, plus an additional £85 earmarked for the Crown Prosecution Service and a further surcharge of £48.
In total, the passenger will have to pay £253 (about 300 euro), an amount that will be deducted from her benefits through payments of £20.
The case once again highlights the problems caused by passengers who consume alcohol before or during flights to Alicante, one of the Spanish airports with the highest traffic from the United Kingdom during the tourist season.
