Torrevieja Town Council has requested a restraining order from a local court to keep a street vendor, under investigation for assaulting a local police officer, away from one of the town’s busiest promenades.
The local authority has formally joined the judicial proceedings against the vendor, asking for him to be banned from the section of the Paseo Juan Aparicio where street selling to tourists and residents is frequently concentrated.
The requested measure, which remains pending a judicial decision, aims to prevent the suspect from returning to the location where he was allegedly operating without a licence and where the police intervention occurred on 14th July, according to Torrevieja Security Councillor Federico Alarcón.
The man was originally arrested, brought before a magistrate, and subsequently released. However, according to the councillor, after leaving court, he returned to the same promenade and threatened the officers on duty again, including the police officer who was allegedly assaulted.
Councillor Alarcón emphasised that the council’s request is strictly limited to the specific location where the incident occurred so that, if granted, the suspect cannot access the area for the designated period.
