Torrevieja Local Police seize more than 100 illegal street vending items in La Mata

Torrevieja Local Police have carried out a new operation against illegal street vending in Plaza Encarnación Puchol, located in La Mata. The intervention resulted in the seizure of 108 products that were abandoned by several vendors during their escape.

The event took place during an operation deployed by officers, when several sellers fled the scene on foot after spotting the police presence. As they ran away, they left behind two sacks containing various items, which were subsequently seized by the police.

Following an inventory, officers counted 50 football kit shirts, 42 branded handbags, and 16 wallets. All the seized material will be destroyed along with other items confiscated in previous operations targeting illegal street sales.

The Local Police and the Department of Security and Emergencies have reminded consumers that purchasing items from illegal street vendors carries consequences. Neighbours and visitors are warned that buying these products can lead to fines of up to 200 euro.

Authorities highlighted the damage that selling suspected counterfeit goods inflicts on local trade, creating unfair competition and contributing to job losses. Furthermore, these items may not have undergone required European safety checks, posing potential risks to buyers.

This intervention forms part of ongoing joint efforts by Torrevieja Local Police and the Guardia Civil to tackle illegal sales and safeguard legal businesses. The local council has urged the public to support local shops by making purchases through authorised sales channels.
