An individual has been arrested in Almoradi for an alleged offence against public health after officers discovered a significant quantity of different narcotic substances hidden inside his backpack.
The incident occurred while officers from the Local Police were carrying out routine traffic monitoring and surveillance duties across the municipality. During their patrol, the officers spotted an e-scooter being ridden by two people in the wrong direction against established traffic flow. The police intervened to issue fines for the corresponding traffic infractions.
It was during this traffic stop that officers noticed a strong odour coming from a backpack carried by one of the occupants of the electric scooter.
Upon inspecting the contents of the bag, police officers uncovered a large quantity of various illegal drugs. Following the discovery, they immediately arrested the driver of the personal mobility vehicle on suspicion of committing an offence against public health.
According to the Almoradi Local Police, the recorded actions could constitute an offence under Article 368 of the Penal Code. This legal classification carries potential prison terms ranging from one to three years, alongside fines equivalent to between one and two times the estimated value of the seized drugs, depending on the circumstances of the case.
The entire operation originated from a minor traffic violation, which enabled officers to detect indicators that led directly to finding the concealed narcotics and making the subsequent arrest.
