The Guardia Civil has arrested two men aged 27 and 38 in Callosa de Segura, accused of committing four burglaries with force in just two days across businesses in Rafal and Redován. The investigation began on 25th July following two break-ins at establishments in Redován that same night. The perpetrators forced open the metal shutters of the premises to gain entry, stealing cash found inside and causing material damage. Both municipalities are situated very close to Callosa de Segura, where the individuals involved in the break-ins were subsequently apprehended.
The Investigation Area of the Callosa de Segura Guardia Civil took charge of the enquiries, gathering evidence and clues that yielded initial data regarding the potential culprits. Two days later, during the night between 27th and 28th July, two further burglaries occurred at shops in Rafal. The method used led investigators to link them with the previous events, and subsequent enquiries confirmed that the same suspects were involved. During the investigation, officers verified that one of the men was on conditional release following a prison sentence for previous offences against property.
The arrests were carried out on 31st July with the support of the Citizen Security Unit of the Alicante Command (USECIC) and the Callosa de Segura Main Post. To execute the arrest at a property located in the upper area of the urban centre, next to the mountain range, a major deployment of around 15 officers forced entry into the home in broad daylight. Upon realising that the Guardia Civil were about to enter the house given the number of officers deployed, the suspects climbed up to the terrace and stood in view of the street with their hands on their heads in a position ready for search and restraint, even before the officers asked them to do so and proceeded with the arrest.
Following their appearance before the judicial authority, the 38-year-old detainee re-entered prison after his conditional release was revoked. The second man, aged 27, was released with charges pending. The proceedings, with which the Guardia Civil considers all four commercial burglaries solved, have been forwarded to the relevant Instruction Section of the Orihuela Court of First Instance.
