Work on the central market urban redevelopment project in Elche is progressing, with tasks currently focusing on the installation of the underground water supply and drainage network along Calle Alfonso XII.
The Elche Town Hall reports that these works are part of the initial phase of the project, which aims to modernise the infrastructure, improve accessibility, and upgrade the public space surrounding the traditional commercial site. The ongoing operations require temporary traffic adjustments and pedestrian diversions in the immediate vicinity to ensure public safety while heavy machinery and pipework are in place.
Local authorities have highlighted that the overall project will transform the area into a more pedestrian-friendly environment, encouraging footfall for nearby businesses once complete. Further phases will follow the completion of the underground utility upgrades, moving on to surface repaving, street lighting enhancements, and the installation of new street furniture.
