National Police officers in Alicante have arrested a 48-year-old man who falsely claimed to have been stabbed and robbed of 6,500 euro. The entire incident was actually orchestrated by the victim himself, in collaboration with an acquaintance, to steal money from his own boss.
The investigation began when the suspect presented himself at a medical centre suffering from a knife wound to his abdomen. He told officers that he had just collected 6,500 euro in cash on behalf of his employer when he was ambushed by two men. According to his initial statement, the attackers stabbed him in the stomach before fleeing with the cash.
However, investigators from the National Police quickly noticed major contradictions in his account. Detectives uncovered that the alleged victim had arranged to meet a 38-year-old acquaintance to carry out the simulated mugging. The acquaintance delivered the stab wound to make the story convincing, allowing the man to keep the cash collected for his boss.
Both individuals have now been arrested. The 48-year-old planner faces charges of simulation of a crime and misappropriation, while his accomplice has been charged with inflicting injuries and collaborating in the simulated crime.
