National Police officers have arrested a 26-year-old alleged hitman in Elche who was subject to an International Arrest Warrant issued by Chilean authorities for his suspected involvement in a murder.
Chilean authorities had issued the international warrant against the man, which was passed to the National Police in Alicante via Interpol after suspicions arose that he could be living in the province.
Based on this information, investigators launched a search to locate the man and discovered that he was residing in Elche. Following a police operation, he was tracked down and detained, the National Police confirmed in a statement.
The suspect, who may have previously belonged to an armed Colombian paramilitary group, faces a life sentence for allegedly shooting a man multiple times and killing him in a contract murder. The crime took place in the municipality of Santiago, Chile, in 2024.
The arrested man has been handed over to the Central Court of the Audiencia Nacional, the judicial body responsible for managing the procedures for his extradition.
