A 61-year-old motorcyclist died in the early hours of Monday morning, 31st August, following a tragic multi-vehicle collision on the N-332 near Santa Pola.
The fatal accident occurred at around 2:15 a.m. at kilometre point 85.700 on the national highway. According to Guardia Civil sources, the motorcyclist was performing an illegal overtaking manoeuvre when he collided head-on with an oncoming car. Following the initial impact, he was subsequently run over by a second car travelling directly behind the first vehicle.
Emergency services attended the scene alongside the Traffic Group of the Guardia Civil. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of both cars escaped unharmed, while three passengers across the two vehicles suffered minor injuries. The Guardia Civil Detachment from Orihuela has taken over the handling of the official proceedings to investigate the exact circumstances of the crash.
