The Guardia Civil has arrested a 43-year-old Romanian man in Torrevieja who was wanted by German authorities for alleged involvement in a homicide with assault and serious injuries. The suspect was found by chance during a routine patrol and tried to avoid identification by using a forged identity document, according to the Guardia Civil.
The incident took place when officers from the Torrevieja Main Station were carrying out public safety duties in a residential area of the town. The Guardia Civil officers noticed the evasive behaviour of a man who tried to avoid them, prompting them to stop him and check his identity.
The suspect showed the officers a foreign identity document that raised suspicions about its authenticity. Following an initial check, the Guardia Civil officers found indications that the document may have been forged and proceeded to seize it.
The man was taken to police headquarters, where investigators determined his true identity. Checks then revealed several outstanding warrants against him.
The main warrant was a European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities for his alleged involvement in a homicide with assault and serious bodily harm. The validity of this warrant was confirmed through international police cooperation channels.
Additionally, the man had two other outstanding court orders issued by a court in Almería.
Given these circumstances, the officers arrested him for an alleged crime of document forgery. The arrested man appeared before the duty judge of the Torrevieja Court of First Instance.
Meanwhile, the proceedings concerning the European Arrest Warrant were sent to the Investigation Section of the Central Court of First Instance, based at the National Court, which will handle the processing of his potential extradition to the German authorities.
