Local political group Sueña Torrevieja has welcomed the opening of applications for new municipal grants designed to assist local families with the purchase of school and computer supplies for the 2026/2027 academic year. Under the newly launched scheme, eligible households will be able to receive up to 200 euro per pupil.
The rollout of the subsidies marks the culmination of an initiative originally brought forward by the municipalist group through motions presented in 2022 and 2025. Following negotiations, the proposal was formally incorporated into Torrevieja’s municipal budget for 2026 as part of broader agreements reached with the local governing team.
Sueña Torrevieja spokesperson Pablo Samper emphasised the tangible impact of the scheme, stating that the grants represent concrete solutions rather than political promises, demonstrating how dialogue and constructive opposition can deliver direct improvements for local residents.
The group submitted a formal motion in October 2025 calling for a dedicated funding line to cushion the financial impact of returning to school, proposing subsidies of up to 200 euro per child for essential educational materials and computer equipment. Although the Partido Popular held an absolute majority to pass the 2026 municipal budget independently, Sueña Torrevieja chose to support the financial plan after successfully securing the inclusion of targeted community measures.
The municipal scheme is available to pupils enrolled in state and state-subsidised centres across the second cycle of Infant Education, Primary, and ESO (compulsory secondary education). Grants will provide up to 200 euro per student, with final amounts determined by household income and individual social circumstances, covering both traditional stationery and learning-related IT devices.
Sueña Torrevieja expressed particular satisfaction that educational technology has been included in the final criteria, noting that modern schooling demands access to digital tools, which often present a heavy financial burden for parents. The political group confirmed it will actively monitor the implementation and administration of the scheme to ensure the application process remains accessible and the assigned funding proves adequate to meet local demand.
