Suma, the tax collection agency for the Alicante Provincial Council, has announced 19 new public auctions featuring properties seized to settle unpaid debts with local councils. The total appraised value of the assets exceeds 1.6 million euro, with starting bids frequently set at half their estimated market value.
Among the residential listings is a subsidised housing unit (VPO) located in Cocentaina. Owned by Cocentaina Town Hall, the newly built 87-square-metre home features two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is valued at 97,459 euro, with bidding starting at 48,729 euro in 3,000 euro increments. Meanwhile, a listing in Finestrat features a tiny three-storey building covering just 57 square metres total—leaving a mere 19 square metres per floor. It carries an appraised value of 31,693 euro and an opening bid of 2,535.50 euro.
Commercial and industrial lots are also on offer, most notably a 247-square-metre factory in Petrer appraised at 108,651 euro, with a starting bid half that amount at 54,325 euro. A variety of parking spaces, storage units and garages are grouped into lots across several municipalities. San Vicente del Raspeig features a lot with ten parking spaces starting between 4,000 euro and 6,000 euro. Similar ten-unit lots are available in Almoradí, alongside a 12-square-metre freight elevator in San Juan starting at 2,260 euro, and a motorcycle space in Alicante city near the castle and MARQ Archaeological Museum available from around 2,200 euro.
The agency has also listed several land parcels. In Murla, a batch of nine plots forming part of the El Portet project ranges in size from 87 to 8,000 square metres, with valuations spanning 8,000 euro to 227,000 euro. Other rural assets include a vegetable garden in Orihuela valued at 100,000 euro and more than 77,000 square metres of rural land in Alcalalí appraised at over 269,000 euro. Urban residential listings also feature a detached duplex in Algorfa valued at more than 136,000 euro.
These auctions allow local councils to recover outstanding tax debts. The director of the Alicante Provincial Council agency, José Antonio Belso, noted that internal review procedures were streamlined over the past year to reduce processing times by 35 per cent while fully safeguarding debtor rights. Over four years, Suma has handled roughly 799 cases leading to 510 awards, providing an essential service particularly for smaller municipalities with limited administrative capacity.
