Torrevieja City Council, through the Department of Urban Management, Accessibility and Urban Services led by councillor Sandra Sánchez, has awarded the contract for the redevelopment of Phase 1 of the Casa Grande Business Park to the company CHM Obras e Infraestructuras, S.A. The contract has been awarded for an amount of 1,543,596 euro, including VAT. The planned execution period for the works will be seven months from the signing of the lay-out approval certificate.
The Casa Grande Business Park constitutes an infrastructure of special importance for the economic and productive activity of Torrevieja. The redevelopment will completely renew an area where the current layout presents deficiencies regarding accessibility, urban service networks, and both road and pedestrian safety.
The project was drawn up in joint collaboration with the members and the board of directors of the Casa Grande Business Park, addressing the various requirements raised by companies located within the area.
Among the main objectives are the organisation of traffic and parking, the improvement of pedestrian movement, and the guarantee of accessible routes for people with reduced mobility. The new street layout will also prevent vehicles from parking on the pavements, a situation that currently encroaches upon pedestrian pathways, damages paving, and hinders mobility.
Phase 1 will encompass the sector located between Calle Pañol and Avenida Rosa Mazón, including both complete roads and all interior streets within this sector. Specifically, work will take place on Calle Obenque, Calle Estay, Calle Ballestringe, Calle Ciaboga, Calle Gabia, Calle Calabrote, and Calle Pañol, alongside the corresponding section of Avenida Delfina Viudes. This initial intervention forms part of the overall redevelopment project for the Casa Grande Business Park and will be carried out ensuring technical consistency with subsequent phases.
The works involve a comprehensive overhaul of existing road infrastructure and urban services. Initial preparation involves locating underground utilities by opening up to 30 test pits, dismantling vertical road signs, and protecting access routes to business premises while work is underway.
Subsequent steps include necessary demolitions of damaged kerbs, pavements, duct banks, and junction boxes, along with corresponding earthworks, excavations, levelling, and compaction. A primary focus is the complete paving of footpaths, featuring new kerbs and accessibility upgrades, as well as milling the current asphalt layers and laying new asphalt surfacing across all roads in this phase.
The scheme establishes a new layout for traffic and parking, reclaiming footpaths for pedestrian use and stopping vehicles occupying these spaces. Additionally, new vertical and horizontal traffic signage, speed reducers, and rumble strips will be installed to limit speeds, alongside road markings on all affected streets. These measures will significantly enhance pedestrian safety, internal circulation, and overall functionality.
The project also incorporates the full renewal of public lighting conduits and the installation of new wiring. Each existing light fitting will feature a point-to-point remote control system for more efficient lighting management. Regarding telecommunications, new underground conduits will be built to bury existing overhead networks, improving both utility infrastructure and the estate’s visual appearance. The intervention is completed with waste management and health and safety provisions throughout the works.
Through this initial phase, Torrevieja City Council undertakes a comprehensive modernising of one of the municipality’s main business hubs, improving its infrastructure, accessibility, safety, mobility, and urban services.
