The International Auditorium of Torrevieja will play host to the 5th National Congress of the Spanish Suicidology Society on Friday 25th September. The details of the event were formally presented by the Councillor for Health, Prevention and Health Promotion, Rosa Cañón, alongside the head of the Psychiatry Service at Torrevieja University Hospital, Jesús Mesones.
The conference aims to bring together a wide array of mental health professionals and specialists, including psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors, nursing staff, social workers, educators, guidance counsellors, communication professionals, university students, associations, and families connected to suicide prevention and support.
The scheduled event programme will feature various panel discussions covering key topics such as the relationship between psychosis, substance abuse, and suicidal behaviour. It will also explore risk factors, resilience, and intervention protocols within the Armed Forces, as well as hosting a debate entitled “Werther vs. Papageno”, which focuses on the impact of media and communication on suicide. In addition, practical workshops will address interviewing techniques, scale assessments, and decision-making led by instructors José Eduardo Montejo, Mariona Durán, and Laura Gil.
The afternoon sessions will focus heavily on diversity and support strategies, with closing remarks delivered by Jesús Mesones and Andoni Anseán. The scientific and organising committee is made up of Jesús Mesones, Andoni Anseán, Raquel Martínez, Pablo Tobajas, and Esperanza Almenta. Registration for the event remains open online via the official website www.congresosuicidologia.es. The standard participation fee is set at 100 euro, which covers entry to all conference sessions, official documentation, a completion certificate, and a working lunch.
