National Police officers have arrested four people in the town of Benidorm, consisting of two men and two women aged between 39 and 47, for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking offences after seizing a kilogram of cocaine hidden inside a backpack.
The investigation began following reports from a neighbour pointing towards a man who was allegedly dedicated to the retail sale of narcotic substances, principally cocaine, using various vehicles for this activity, as reported by headquarters in a statement.
After establishing various surveillance and monitoring operations, officers were able to confirm that the suspect contacted buyers through different communication channels and subsequently used one of the vehicles to carry out journeys and deliveries of the previously arranged substances.
The enquiries also allowed authorities to determine that the main suspect could be using two properties for the storage and distribution of the drug, as well as the equipment employed for its packaging.
During one of the surveillance operations carried out, the suspect travelled to a car park aboard a vehicle, where after meeting with other men they went to the boot, inside which there was a backpack. Given the possibility that a transaction of narcotic substances was taking place, officers proceeded to intercept and identify the individuals involved.
During the inspection of the backpack, they located a wrapped package containing a substance that, following appropriate checks, turned out to be cocaine, weighing over a kilogram.
The police operation culminated in the arrest of four people for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking offences. Subsequently, officers carried out two entries and searches at properties used by the main suspect located in the towns of L’Alfàs del Pi and La Nucia, where they seized various effects allegedly destined for the preparation and distribution of narcotic substances, in addition to three vehicles and two mobile phones.
The detainees, following the completion of police procedures, have been brought before the duty courts of instruction in the town of Benidorm.
