National Police officers have arrested a 38-year-old man in the city of Alicante who was the subject of a European Arrest and Surrender Warrant issued by French authorities for offences against property and individuals committed in 2025, according to a statement from the Provincial Police Station.
The Provincial Police Station detailed that the requesting country issued a European Arrest Warrant which was brought to the attention of the National Police in Alicante through the International Fugitives Group of the General Comisariat of the Judicial Police, after receiving suspicions that the requested person might be residing in the capital of Alicante.
Following the information received, investigators initiated inquiries to locate the fugitive and discovered that he was in this town. After establishing a police operation, the man was located and arrested.
The events for which the arrest and surrender warrant was issued against him were committed in 2025 in the French commune of Cublize. There, the fugitive allegedly broke into his former partner’s home where he purportedly caused various damages inside the property, the same source detailed.
Additionally, the source noted that facing this situation, the victim quickly alerted officers and managed to take refuge in a neighbour’s home. The victim reported that the wanted person allegedly threatened both her and her current partner using a knife.
For these offences, the detainee could face a maximum prison sentence of one year in France. The man has been brought before the Central Investigating Court of the National Court, the judicial body responsible for carrying out the procedures for his subsequent extradition.
