The eviction of a 95-year-old man in Benidorm, which had been scheduled for yesterday, Monday, 5th October, has been postponed for one month, according to an announcement by the Sindicat de Vivenda de Carolines.
The neighbourhood collective highlighted the case, noting that the affected citizen faces losing the property where he lives after having spent 11 years making mortgage payments tied to the building. According to the housing union, the flat was registered in the name of the man’s daughter, who lived with her parents. The woman was subsequently diagnosed with advanced cancer and passed away at the age of 49.
The union explained that the debt was later transferred from the banking entity to an investment fund, Coral Homes S.L. Since that time, the family states they have attempted to pursue various negotiation pathways to prevent the loss of the home.
Describing the situation as one of special gravity due to the tenant’s age and the fact that the property constitutes his home, the housing collective announced the one-month delay. However, representatives warned that this does not constitute a victory, as the resident remains at risk of losing his residence, and confirmed they will continue supporting him.
