A 70-year-old man suffered a suspected stroke and went into cardiac arrest on the busy beach of La Mata in Torrevieja during a holiday weekend featuring mild temperatures and calm seas. Emergency services were alerted to the situation yesterday afternoon, Sunday 11th October, at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Response teams quickly arrived at the scene, including a local police patrol, the Environmental and Activities Group (Gruma), the beach service, and a SAMU ambulance. Although exact details regarding whether the man was in the water or on the sand when the incident occurred have not yet been released, medical professionals successfully worked to stabilise him at the scene. Following initial treatment, he was transferred to Torrevieja University Hospital via an ambulance provided by the DYA beach service.
