The National Police has arrested a 28-year-old man in Dénia accused of stealing money from the donation box of a mosque in Alicante. In September, he was already arrested twice for allegedly committing thefts in Muslim temples in Elche and Gandia (Valencia), according to a statement from the security force.
The investigation began following a complaint by the secretary of a mosque in the capital of Alicante, who reported that an unknown person had forced open the access door and taken all the money deposited by community members during religious celebrations after breaking the padlock on the alms collection box.
In response to these events, officers from the Judicial Police Group of the North District Police Station launched enquiries, during which they identified a man as the suspected perpetrator with assistance from the Provincial Scientific Police Brigade.
The police officers verified that the incident was reportedly not the first time he had stolen from a mosque, as during September he had been arrested on two occasions: once in Benidorm, accused of targeting a Muslim temple in Gandia, and another in Dénia, after apparently stealing in one located in Elche.
Finally, the officers located the suspect in the Alicante locality of Dénia, where he was arrested and charged with a crime of robbery with force. Following the completion of police procedures, the man was brought before the duty court of the Dénia municipality.
