The extensive redevelopment works surrounding the Customs House and the creation of a new promenade along the Torrevieja bay waterfront have been extended for a fourth time. The newly revised completion date has been set for 21 November, following three previous adjustments to the project timetable. The contract was originally awarded to González Soto on 31st October 2025 for a total cost of €5,055,519 including VAT. Although the initial tender outlined a five-month timeframe, the contractor offered to reduce the period by six weeks, setting an execution deadline of 15 and a half weeks. However, four deadline modifications during 2026 have pushed the overall completion date back to late November.
The project encompasses a comprehensive renovation of the old fishing pier waterfront, the quayside promenade, and the areas surrounding Mínguez Wharf, the former Customs House, and the new leisure centre. Key improvements involve laying new paving, replacing utility networks, installing public lighting and street furniture, and improving pedestrian accessibility across the entire port area.
Remaining tasks are primarily concentrated on finishing the paving in front of the façade of the old Customs House building, which houses administrative offices and was renovated by the Paseo del Mar concessionaire. Construction crews are currently working across Saturdays and Sundays to meet the target. Once finished, the lower level and the access ramp area leading to the shopping centre will fully reopen to pedestrians after weeks of partial closures. Additionally, workers are finalising a steel flowerbed feature with a continuous bench that separates the leisure zone from the new promenade, which is currently awaiting the installation of wooden seating. The final handover will also allow a newly built children’s play area to open to the public.

This quayside contract is being executed alongside two other major infrastructure projects in the port area, which together represent an investment of more than €11 million. Primary electrification work was awarded to the Orthem-Abala joint venture, part of the Hozono Group, for €3,265,085 including VAT. This contract supplies basic electrical infrastructure, including medium and low-voltage installations, conduits, two transformer substations serving the fairgrounds and leisure centre, and public lighting for the multi-purpose esplanade.
Secondary electrification constitutes a third contract, awarded to Abala Infraestructuras and Orthem Servicios y Actuaciones Ambientales for €7,863,401.06, designed to complete the internal electrical distribution with panels, lines, lighting, and protection systems. This phase also incorporates paving, street furniture, equipment, and landscaping for the large esplanade designed to accommodate the amusement fair, craft stalls, and other public events. Works on this esplanade, which unifies land from the former port area and Paseo de La Libertad, have likewise seen their schedule extended until the second week of November.
With much of the area already accessible for several months, the vast redevelopment effort appears nearly finished. Final tasks remain focused on the central section of the former Avenida de La Libertad, while the lane nearest to the building line will not be developed under the current plan and will remain in its present state for the time being.
