Pilar de la Horadada welcomes two new collections at the Casa de Cultura

Pilar de la Horadada welcomes two new collections at the Casa de Cultura exhibition hall and corridors that will run until 31st October.

"The Color of Flowers" is the second collection by Olga Sánchez who has been painting and drawing locally for over a decade. The exhibition includes 29 works mostly floral which is "a major style change from the collection that the Torrevieja secondary school teacher exhibited last year.

"The Color of Flowers" brings together a large mix of techniques ranging from acrylic on canvas to charcoal, graphite and watercolor, through which the author produces a great visual feeling and richness of textures.

The second exhibition, "Postcards of Our History" includes edited images from 1900 through to the eighties

There are 126 postcards, of which 21 depict Pilar de la Horadada and the rest the local area including Los Alcazares, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Campoamor.

This traveling exhibition "Postcards of Our History" began its journey in May in San Pedro del Pinatar and after visiting Santiago de la Ribera (San Javier) and Los Alcazares finally arrived in Pilar de la Horadada, with 6 new images, one of San Pedro del Pinatar, 1909, another Campoamor 1905, a map of the coastline and 3 postcards showing Torre de la Horadada in the sixties.

LOCAL SCHOOLS SUSPEND CLASSES

By Costa Blanca News
13th September 2014
in :  Regional News

The headmaster said that the school was unable to perform satisfactorily with temperatures as high

Just a week after reopening its doors following the summer holiday the IES Virgen del Remedio de Alicante sent its students home last Tuesday morning after many of them complained of sickness as the heat in the classrooms reached 30 degrees C.

The move was in direct contravention to the guidelines issued by the department of Education.

In a statement issued to the parents of all students the headmaster said that the school was unable to perform satisfactorily with temperatures as high "and with the forecast of the upcoming weather conditions showing little change he had informed the competent education authorities, that the school will be closed until Monday 15th September."

A regional administrator had attended the school on the previous day at the request of the headmaster. He said that "all classes" without exception, had exceeded the temperature of 30 degrees from as early as 8.30 am. The law says that the maximum limit for students whilst undertaking their school activities should be 27 degrees so the headmaster said that he had no option other than to suspend the vocational training and high school classes.

The teachers told parents that the students complained that they couldn't sit indoors and as such they were allowed to move to the playground where they spent their time drinking water. They said that they would much prefer that classes were canceled.

Before the move to close the school many parents had already said that they were keeping their children at home. Indeed on the previous day at the IES de San Blas, the management decided that teachers could not continue teaching in temperatures that exceeded 27 degrees and they sent their students outdoors in search of shade. This situation led to students, tired of the heat, notifying the families many of who arrived at the center to take them away.

Another local school which carried out similar action was the Clara Campoamor de Elche where teachers had urged the Department of Education to provide an urgent solution to the problem and which, on Friday had received a visit from an Inspector with the Valencian Institute for Health and safety at Work (INVASSAT) who measured the temperatures in the classes .

Many other institutes said that they applauded the decision of the IES Virgen del Remedio and the Clara Campoamor de Elche.

SECURITY LOCKERS INSTALLED ON LA PLAYA DE GLEA

By Costa Blanca News
12th September 2014
in :  Regional News

Playa de Glea get security lockers

We have all experienced the problem, a lazy day on the beach but nowhere to store our valuables. How many of us have suffered over the years, if not from theft, but from the worry of having to keep an eye on our wallets, keys or simple possessions.

Well now, certainly at La Glea beach, that concern is no more because, after a successful trial on La Zenia, Chiringuitos del Sol have installed brand new security lockers in which to deposit your belongings at Campoamor.

The system has been installed by the operators, Chiringuitos del Sol, along with the support of the Orihuela council, one of the first in the world to ensure the safety and security of visiting tourists.

The lockers can be rented all day or for just five euro's and when you compare the charge to the cost and inconvenience of losing your valuables it's a small price to pay. One tourist told the Leader that on a beach as popular and as crowded as Campoamor a simple oversight could result in loss or theft so the 5 euro charge is well worth the peace of mind that the security locker provides.

The lockers are provided in customizable modules, five meters wide and a height of just over eight feet, with each module consisting of 108 boxes. They are solar powered and they also offer free wifi to their users when situated within a 400 metre radius. Renting a locker for eleven hours costs just five euro, so for a small fee visitors can rest easy

Chiringuitos del Sol has eleven beach bar establishments on Orihuela Costa's frontline beaches where they work extremely hard to ensure the enjoyment and tranquility of tourists, efforts that have rightly earned the company the "Q" mark for quality. They have also been awarded ISO 9000 and 14000 certifications.
