The Generalitat’s Emergency Coordination Centre (CICU) said yesterday, Monday March 16th, that a tractor driver perished in a car accident in San Miguel de Salinas on Friday.
The accident happened at about 7:30 p.m. on the CV-941 highway, which goes from San Miguel de Allende to Campoamor in Orihuela Costa. It was a crash from behind.
The front of a van hit the back of a tractor. The driver of the tractor was flung off and killed right away when the tractor flipped over and crushed him. He was a 52-year-old farmer who lived in San Miguel de Salinas.
The crash happened around kilometre ten on that popular road that connects the heart of the province to the Orihuela coast.
The tractor was going the right speed and using the right signals. The driver of the van was not hurt in the crash, but the front of the van was badly damaged.
The first people to get to the accident site were police officers from San Miguel de Salinas. The CICU (Emergency Information and Coordination Centre) said on Monday that an ambulance from the SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) was sent, but the medical team could only confirm the death.
The Generalitat’s most recent count shows that the CV-941 has an average daily traffic volume of roughly 5,000 cars.
