The photograph shows the team accepting the trophy from the League Secretary Ivie Davies

That was the cry following the final game of the Vega Baja Premier Golf League played at El Valle on 2 May 2014 as Las Ramblas Golf Society secured the Premier League Championship for the first time in its history.

The photograph shows the team accepting the trophy from the League Secretary Ivie Davies having won three of the four matches and taking the bonus points to win the match by 12 points to 3 against Paddy’s Point Golf Society. This gave the team the title by 3 pts from runners up La Manga (North).

The winning pairs on the day at the testing El Valle Course which was in excellent condition were Tom Hardie and Bryan Neal, Terry Field and Barbara Hitchins and remaining unbeaten throughout the whole season husband and wife team John and Carole Wheeler.

Congratulations to all those at the Club who contributed to this magnificent achievement in particular Club Captain Mick Brentnall who will no doubt be reminding previous Captains of his leadership skills for many years to come.

On Monday it was back to Las Ramblas where we played a Waltzer with one score counting on the first hole, two on the second and three on the third and so on throughout the round. This turned out to be a very close affair with two teams having to be separated on count back both scoring 81 pts.

The winners were Lindsay Forbes, Bryan Neal, Roger Tunstall and ‘Albert’. The unlucky runners up were Terry Field, Dave Pulling, Ron Phipps and Olga Douglas.

Wednesday saw us playing our usual Stableford competition in perfect conditions and there were some good scores particularly in Category One with one player beating par and two others on level par. The results for the day were as follows:

Cat 1. 1st Bryan Neal 37 pts 2nd Olga Douglas 36 pts (c/b) 3rd Phil Herrington 36 pts

Cat 2. 1st Rod Doel 35 pts 2nd Carole Wheeler 33 pts (c/b) 3rd Mike Chapman 33 pts

There were six 2’s in the 2’s Club scored by Mike Frankish, Phil Herrington, Bryan Neal, Olga Douglas, John Wheeler and guest Terry Cullin.

On Friday there were four more games played in the Singles Knockout Match play competition and the winners going through to the next round are Olga Douglas, John Wheeler, Tom Hardie and Mike Chapman.

The remaining members played a Medalford and the winner with a score of 19 was Joe (Fred) Rothery with Joyce McClusky in second with 21. In third place winning the guest prize was Tracy Granzel with a score of 23.
