Thanks to the new technology that makes information more readily available in our hands, the network that brings electronic data to our mobile phones and tablets is also being developed with a practical use, such as an ingenious system implemented in Guardamar.
The town hall of Guardamar are now able to monitor all 600 of their municipal waste bins, in real time, to check if they have been emptied, or if there are any other issues that need resolving.
Not unlike the Linea Verde application being used in Orihuela and other municipalities where the onus is on the public to report faults, the difference with this system, according to councilor Javier Cremades, is that this system “allows inspectors to collect data relating to incidents that occur on the street in real time and send it to the central information system that is located in the municipal offices”.
Both systems have the added bonus for the municipality in speeding up problem resolution, which in turn is handed down to the residents by means of a speedier and more cost effective process by using modern technology.
