Following an investigation that led to the search of a number of properties across Paterna, Torrente, Valencia, Pedralba and Alicante, officers from the National Police have arrested 15 people believed to be part of a criminal gang dedicated to trafficking of weapons.
The investigation began in March when investigators became aware of a person in the Valencia town of Paterna, who was engaged in the sale of weapons in exchange for drugs. After carrying out preliminary investigations, the officers found that the suspect was part of a group dedicated to selling weapons on the illicit market. They also found that they removed the identification numbers of the weapons to prevent their origin being discovered, should the weapons have been intercepted.
As the investigation and surveillance continued, officers discovered the identity of the principal members of the network, suppliers, distributors and retailers, and located their homes. With this information, the officers raided the addresses, and seized eight guns, two revolvers, a submachine gun, a pistol flare gun, three shotguns, two BB rifles, a fake grenade and a total of 3,927 cartridges of various calibres, in addition to three precision scales, pieces of gold, cash and a small amount of cocaine.
