Alicante National Police have arrested a 54 year old man in Santa Pola after receiving a European Extradition Order, issued by the German authorities, in relation to a 1.7 million euros fraud.

The hunt for the man was initiated by the Provincial Police after they learned of his presence in the Alicante area following which the unit specializing in locating fugitives began surveillance on a Santa Pola property.

The arrest then took place last week when his presence in the town was confirmed.

The suspect, through the Internet, managed to access a total of 52,737 bank accounts from which he received approximately 88,061 transfers, each of 19.95 euros, into his account, representing a total amount of 1,756,816.95 euros.

The fugitive, a Netherlands national, has now been handed over to the German authorities where he is believed to faces a sentence of 10 years in prison for the scam involving 15 offenses of computer fraud.
