Officers from the National Police arrested the alleged perpetrator of the murder of a 39 year old woman in her home in the Orihuela town of Capuchinos, after her partner went on the run after apparently admitting killing her to a family member.
The arrest took place on Tuesday in the lobby of an apartment block of the La Fama area of the city of Murcia, where the woman´s 37 year old partner originated from. The detainee did not resist arrest.
The deputy of the Government in Alicante, Alberto Martínez, confirmed that the couple lived and have a child together, and that the woman has a daughter from a previous marriage.
Now classified as a case of domestic abuse, this is the third death caused by violence between partners recorded in the region of Valencia so far this year, after incidents in El Campello and Santa Pola. In the whole of 2013, there were nine deaths, including three in the Alicante province, thus matching the figure so far to date.
The town hall of Orihuela organised an impromptu gathering outside the doors of the city hall on Tuesday to mark three minutes of silence in respect for the woman who was killed. Around a hundred people attended and shared their respects. The City Council declared three days of official mourning and sent a message of support and solidarity to the family of the victim, whilst also thanking the individuals, associations and groups who congregated on Tuesday.
