The former mayor, Ignacio Ramos, is emerging as the only possible candidate in the PSOE leadership contest in Pilar de la Horadada running up to next year’s Municipal elections.
The councillor, who was mayor for over 15 years, was to only candidate to show up at the PSOE Primary held last week, where 40 party members gathered to select their representative.
Ramos retired from his job as a teacher during the period of his office as the town mayor between 1995 and 2011.
A town of over 20,000 inhabitants neither of the major parties in Pilar de la Horadada has governed with an absolute majority since December 2006.
Between 2007 and 2011 the PSOE required the support of independents to form a government and the PP, led by Mayor Jose Fidel Ros is in the same situation as it continues to govern today. All indications are that this trend will continue in the May 2015 elections.
