An earthquake registering 2.4 on the Richter scale shook Torrevieja on Monday morning, with neighbouring towns also feeling the tremor.

The quake occurred at 08:38 local time with its epicentre just south of the salt lakes.
Residents of Quesada, Almoradí, San Miguel and San Fulgencio, amongst others, reported feeling the effects.
Torrevieja is the site of one of the most devastating earthquakes in Spain´s history when 386 people were killed and another 375 injured, as 2,965 houses were destroyed in March, 1829.
