Sueña Torrevieja has welcomed the approval of eight new Eurotaxi licences in the municipality, describing the move as a necessary and positive step to address what it says is a clearly insufficient taxi service for a city of Torrevieja’s size and demand.
Spokesperson Pablo Samper highlighted that the expansion of licences forms part of the budgetary agreements reached for 2026, and acknowledged that fulfilling those commitments represents tangible progress.
“We are pleased to see movement on the granting of new Eurotaxi licences,” Samper said. “It was a budgetary commitment and an obvious necessity for the city. When agreements are honoured, it is only fair to recognise it, and this measure is heading in the right direction.”
However, the local group has expressed concern over what it describes as insufficient publicity and poor dissemination of the licensing process. According to Sueña Torrevieja, several professionals who may have been interested in applying were unaware of the call until it was already closed.
Samper warned that the lack of visibility surrounding such an important procedure risks excluding qualified applicants and undermines confidence in municipal processes.
“What we regret is that a process of this importance was not adequately publicised,” he said. “That may have left out professionals who would otherwise have applied, and who in previous calls had proper access to the information.”
As a result, Sueña Torrevieja has submitted a formal question to the plenary session, requesting a detailed explanation of the timeline and communication strategy used during the procedure. The group says it expects a clear and convincing response from the governing team.
Call for Temporary Licences and Ongoing Improvements
Beyond the current call, Sueña Torrevieja reiterated its demand for the creation of temporary taxi licences, a mechanism permitted under regional regulations and one the group believes is essential given Torrevieja’s continued population growth and seasonal pressure on transport services.
The party stressed that its approach remains constructive and focused on improving municipal management rather than confrontation.
“We believe future calls must strengthen communication channels and guarantee maximum transparency, so that all potential applicants have equal opportunities,” Samper concluded.
Sueña Torrevieja reaffirmed its commitment to accessible mobility, compliance with budget agreements, and a more open, transparent and effective local administration, insisting that both permanent and temporary taxi licences are now indispensable to meet the city’s real transport needs
