On Tuesday, February 17th, the Guardia Civil, the Albatera Local Police, and the Elche Fire Department found the body of a 71-year-old hiker who had been missing since Monday. He had left the town of Crevillent in his car about 11 a.m. on Monday with the aim of hiking in the area.
His wife told the Guardia Civil in Crevillent what happened that same night because he didn’t come back. As soon as they found out, they started looking for him and gave the information to the other security forces in nearby towns. On Tuesday morning, they found his car parked on a road near the Sierra de Albatera.
From that point on, the search operation, which included Guardia Civil officers from the main stations in Crevillente and Dolores, the drone of the Citizen Security Unit of the Command, the Mountain Rescue Specialist Group of the Valencia area, the Local Police of Albatera, and the Firefighters of Elche, focused on the Rambla Salada, a hiking trail in a natural area between Albatera and Orihuela. In the middle of the afternoon, they found the body of the man, who was a regular hiker, in a steep area that was hard to get to.
Right now, the circumstances behind the occurrences are being looked into, but the body doesn’t show any evidence of violence, and everything points to it being an accidental death.
