A man was hurt yesterday morning, Friday February 20th, after falling in Torrevieja Cemetery, near the N-332, while working on a headstone.
The call came in at 10:22 a.m., and firemen from the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium’s Torrevieja station responded. According to initial accounts, the man fell into a grave pit from a height of about three metres.
Following the fall, the injured man was in excruciating back pain. Despite this, he remained cognisant and capable of moving. To avoid more injuries, firefighters extracted the victim safely using a hover mattress.
After being rescued, the man was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation. The operation included a Command and Control Unit (UMJ) with a sergeant, a BUP (Basic Police Unit), an FSV (Firefighters Service Vehicle) with a corporal, and seven Torrevieja firefighters. The procedure was completed at 11:37 a.m.
The incident caused only one injury, and no evacuation was required, despite the fact that the area was blocked off during rescue operations.
