As part of Operation Cephalopods, the Guardia Civil removed an active drug sales point close to a betting shop in Guardamar del Segura after receiving an anonymous complaint from a civilian who alerted them to the steady flow of individuals coming to a house to acquire narcotics.
The probe began in December after the public provided information. Officers were able to corroborate their original concerns after noticing an unusual surge of individuals at a flat in a residential block. Individuals entered the flat at all hours of the day, stayed for only a few minutes, and then swiftly left—a common trend in drug-selling areas.
The Investigation Unit of the Guardamar del Segura Police Station concentrated its investigation on the property’s owner, a 40-year-old man with a criminal record for offences against people who lived in the rented flat. Investigators also discovered that the suspect had a high rate of spending without legal explanation, implying that his revenue came from the illegal activity under investigation.
The accused individual resided near an arcade and betting store, and the inquiry revealed that he supplied cocaine and MDMA to gamblers. This illegal conduct produced disturbances and commotion at the facility, which increased residents’ sense of insecurity and had a negative impact on communal life.
On January 22nd, the Guardia Civil searched the residence based on evidence discovered throughout the inquiry. During the search, they discovered 19.3 grams of cocaine, 0.8 grams of methamphetamine, 1.3 grams of hashish, 20 boxes of medication for cutting the narcotics, a precise scale, and different tools for measuring and packaging the drugs.
In addition to the Guardamar del Segura Main Post, members of the Alicante Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) and the Alicante Canine Service took part in the operation.
The detainee has been summoned before the Torrevieja Court of Instruction, and the sitting judge has ordered his release with precautionary measures until trial. He faces charges of narcotics trafficking and money laundering.
According to the Guardia Civil, this operation removed a drug-dealing point that specialised in supplying narcotics to customers of betting shops, removing a significant source of environmental instability and violence.
