The National Police have arrested two people in Alicante who are accused of making more than 60 fraudulent phone contracts using information from up to 13 people. They did this to get high-end mobile phones and other digital equipment that they planned to sell for a profit.
According to a statement from the police, the people implicated in these events are a female employee of the shop where the contracts were recorded and another man who reportedly sold the devices he got through fraud.
The investigation started when the head of a telephone service distributor complained that he had seen an unexpected rise in the number of contracts in one of his outlets and that these contracts might not be real.
Because of these circumstances, the agents started their investigation. They found that more than 60 contracts had been formed in 2025 utilising the personal information of up to 13 persons without their permission.
The investigators looked into the clients’ business files and found that the signatures on some contracts didn’t match and that the clients didn’t properly accept the contracts. Also, the invoices for the contracts’ costs were linked to the same bank account, even though they had separate names on them.
The agents also checked to see if the bills for the contracted phone lines were being paid. They found that the sum of contracts worth around 900 euros led to non-payments of roughly 54,000 euros, which was a loss for the distributor.
Finally, the officers were able to identify the two suspects, who were then found and arrested on accusations of fraud and forging of documents. When the police caught the second suspect, he had a photocopy of one of the victims’ ID cards on him. The victim’s information had supposedly been used to make up to 13 contracts.
The police said that these people have not only lost money because of these fake contracts, but they have also lost their good name by being on a list of people who have not paid.
After the police investigation, the arrested, a man and a woman, aged 52 and 35, have been given to the duty magistrate in Alicante.
