The Provincial Fire Consortium stepped in and put out a fire on Tuesday, February 24th, that had started outside an industrial building on the CV-95 route at kilometre 7.5, in the municipality of Bigastro, near the cemetery.
At 3:26 p.m., the alert came in. The Consortium’s assessment says that the fire originated after a controlled burn of brush outside the building got out of hand. The fire spread quickly through the trash, plastic, and tyres that had built up in the area, generating a blaze that needed firefighters to be sent right away.
Deployment
Firefighters from the Orihuela fire station, including a Command and Control Unit (UMJ), a Heavy Urban Pumper (BUP), and a Heavy Water Tanker (BNP), were sent to the location. There were six firefighters, a corporal, and a sergeant on the team. This was the whole workforce of the Orihuela fire station.
The efforts to put out the fire and keep it from spreading went on until 6:10 p.m. No one was hurt or killed in the incident, which is a good thing. The same sources said that firemen worked to keep the fire from spreading beyond the outside of the building, which kept it from damaging the major part of the industrial building. The police helped the firefighters.
