Every year, the world of video games changes. New technologies that are getting better and better provide more niches and themes.
For example, Teamfight Tactics, or TFT for short. This is a strategic video game in the auto battler genre made by Riot Games. In it, eight players compete by forming teams of League of Legends champions that fight each other automatically.
The goal is to be the last one standing, using your goods, economics, and placement to beat your opponents in battle rounds.
The Spanish Major “Legacy and Legend” will be held in Elche on March 21st, making it the national epicentre of Teamfight Tactics.
The Ciutat d’Elx Congress Centre will host the 32 best players in Spain, as well as content developers and fans. This event will help the Riot Games title expand as a competitive game in our nation.
GGTech Entertainment, a firm that focuses on esports and educational gaming, is behind the organisation. Juan Castillo, the company’s CEO, says that the event is very important to the company’s strategy: “We wanted the Spanish Major to be more than just a tournament; we wanted it to be an experience for the community.” He goes on to say that Elche has the right infrastructure, a link with young people, and an atmosphere that makes the event more than just a competition.
A ticket to Las Vegas
The winner of the tournament will not only win the national title, but they will also get a spot in the TFT Open in Las Vegas, which is one of the most prestigious international events on the circuit.
This worldwide leap is important for Castillo: “We are seeing how Spanish talent in TFT continues to grow.” These kinds of events let our players compete at the top level and get noticed outside of our country.
Six of the 32 participants have already been confirmed as special guests: Reven, Dalesom, Manute, Snoodyboo, Akawonder, and Safo. These are all very well-known figures in the community.
Format for competition
The Spanish Major “Legado y Leyenda” will have a tough format that rewards both consistency and flexibility. The snapshot method has been in existence since December, and eight players have already got their spots.
They will be joined by two players from the university circuit and 16 players from the open qualifications for the community, which will take place tomorrow February 27th and 28th and March 1st. We want different types of players to be able to play together, such established players, college players, and up-and-coming players who qualify through open competition. Castillo says, “That mix is what makes the ecosystem stronger.”
Elche, a smart bet
There is a reason why Elche was chosen. The CEO of GGTech says that decentralising large events is one of the company’s main goals. “Spain has a lot of potential outside of Madrid and Barcelona.” He says that bringing an event of this level to Elche shows that gaming and esports can bring new life to the area and have an effect on the people who live there.
Along with the competitive part, there will be communal spaces and events that happen at the same time as the main event. These will be announced soon. He says, “We want people who come to not only watch matches, but also feel like they’re part of something bigger, meet creators, and experience the atmosphere.”
TFT Growth
The Spanish Major celebration in Elche shows that the Spanish TFT scene is still growing and becoming more professional.
For Castillo, this moment is very important: “We are in a stage of ecosystem maturity.” There is greater organisation, training, and real chances to compete all the time. We want to keep going in that direction.
Tickets are already on sale, and all signs lead to March 21st being a momentous day for the TFT community in Elche, Spain.
