Last Saturday, one of the two men accused of killing Northern Irishman John George, whose body was recovered in a lemon grove in Rojales in January 2025, was shot and killed in Torrevieja. The Guardia Civil hasn’t arrested anyone yet in connection with this recent incident and is still looking into all the possible suspects.
Michael M., a 33-year-old man from the Czech Republic, has been on temporary release since his arrest more than a year ago. He was released again on February 20th after appearing in the Torrevieja court again to answer questions about the murder of John George.
According to sources close to the case, the private prosecution initiated by John George’s family wanted him to go to jail after new evidence came to light that linked him to the murder. This evidence was blood tests found on licence plates that the Guardia Civil took from Michael M.’s car. The testing showed that the blood came from John George, who lived in Northern Ireland.
The court agreed to keep the same safety measures in place and did not send the suspect to jail. He had been following these rules until now. They included going to court every 15 days, giving up his passport, and not being able to travel.
People who know about the case have told this publication that Michael M.’s cooperation was vital for figuring out what happened to John George and where his body was found, hidden behind a lemon tree.
After his arrest, the Czech citizen who was killed this weekend said he had nothing to do with the crime and that his only connection to it was a recent friendship with the main suspect. He also said that he once drove John George to Jonathan Alan S.’s house to get some personal things, which is where the alleged murderer lived.

Head wound
Michael M., a Czech citizen, was killed on Calle Pleamar in Torrevieja, in the Rocío del Mar neighbourhood, which is close to Punta Prima. Last Sunday at about 1:30 a.m., a neighbour called the police. He said he saw a man laying in the street with blood on his head, but it seems that no one else saw the incident.
An ambulance from the SAMU (Emergency Medical Service) came to the site and tried to save the victim, but he was already dead. After the death was confirmed, the Guardia Civil told the judicial panel, and a comprehensive search was made for any clues about the person or people who committed the crime. The place where Michael M. was killed is one of the quietest neighbourhoods in Torrevieja and is extremely close to the sea.
After Michael M. was killed in a brutal way, his buddy and fellow countryman Jonathan Alan S. is being looked into for the murder of John George. Lawyer Francisco Miguel Galiana Botella is defending him. Since last December, he has been free on bail of 100,000 euros.
