The National Police have broken up a network in the municipality of Elda that made money by registering foreign nationals in ways that were not legal. The police operation, which was done with the help of the Elda City Council, led to the arrest of two brothers, ages 69 and 71, who were suspected of being involved in the fabrication of documents.
The police started looking into the case after finding three residences where at least 28 people from other countries were registered as living there illegally.
After asking questions, investigators found out that two of the owner’s children had been responsible for enrolling people who had never lived at the homes and whose whereabouts were mostly unknown.
The investigators also located a fourth home owned by one of the inmates. There was a foreign citizen registered there who didn’t live there either, and she told the agents that she had spent 650 euros registering there.
As part of the investigation, the agents talked to the other foreign citizens who had been fraudulently registered at the other three addresses in exchange for money. They confirmed that the goal was to get the SIP health card by giving false information about their usual address.
Based on all the evidence, it was clear that the two suspects were registering foreign nationals at their registered locations in exchange for a lot of money and that these people had never truly lived at those addresses. Because of this, the authorities found them and arrested them for supposedly being involved in document forgery.
After the police finished their work, one of the people who was arrested was sent to the duty magistrates in the town of Elda.
