A 27-year-old man died on Thursday afternoon, 13th August, at the Doctor Balmis General Hospital in Alicante after being admitted to the intensive care unit with head trauma. The injury was sustained during the early hours of Thursday morning during an altercation at the Campo de Golf TRAM stop, near the leisure area in San Juan beach, Alicante.
The National Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his alleged involvement in the incident. He is currently awaiting appearance before a judge.
According to reports, a verbal dispute broke out between the victim and the alleged attacker, which escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, the 22-year-old allegedly kicked the other man in the head, causing him to hit the tram tracks.
The Information and Urgent Coordination Centre (CICU) in Alicante received an alert at 5.37 am on Thursday to attend to the young man at the TRAM stop. A SAMU medical emergency unit and a Basic Life Support unit were dispatched to the scene.
While receiving medical care, the victim suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. The SAMU team performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques until they managed to stabilise him. He was then rushed to the Doctor Balmis General University Hospital, where police sources confirmed he died hours later in the afternoon.
