These days, Orihuela is slowly rolling out the electric scooter rental service around the coast by marking parking spots and getting the fleet ready to run in the city.
The City Council gave MGC Clean Energy the job of running personal mobility vehicles for four years and 164,800 euros in November. The company must pay the Council 41,200 euros a year to use the municipal public domain, which is more than the 34,366 euros that was offered in the tender.
The winning company has already started the service. They have a fleet of approved scooters that meet current regulations and are marked with the City Council’s institutional shield so that they can be easily found in the regulated system. There are also signs showing where they can park at different points along the coast.
There will be almost 190 parking spots, up from the original 120. The goal is to give users clearly marked places to park their cars when they are done using them, so they don’t have to park them on sidewalks, roads or in public spaces, which residents have been complaining about.

There will be roughly 190 parking spots instead of the original 120. The idea is to give people distinct places to park their cars when they’re done with them, so they don’t have to park them on sidewalks, roads, or in public spaces, something neighbours have been grumbling about.
